A Brief History of Our Savior Lutheran Church


1961 October 1 Canvass of area homes reveals 103 communicant Lutherans.
1962 February 11 First meeting.  39 people from 9 Lutheran churches attend.
1962 March 11 First public worship service at Fenton Public School.  148 attend.
1962 March 18 Sunday School classes began with 31 children enrolled.
1962 April 22 Easter Sunday - "Our Savior Lutheran Church" name chosen.
1962 August 14 Ladies Guild is organized.
1962 September 9 Formal organization of "Our Savior Lutheran Church".
1962 October 14 Rev. Edwin Keiper installed as first pastor of Our Savior.
1962 December 17 Church property (8.75 acres) purchased for $37, 414.
1963 August 4 The pavilion, built by members, is dedicated.
1963 August 12-23 The first Vacation Bible School.  157 children in the pavilion.
1964 February 20 Adult Choir begins at Our Savior.
1964 February 23 Groundbreaking for Church Building.
1964 July 26 Parsonage (Parish House) is dedicated.
1964 September Kindergarten begins in parsonage basement.  Teacher is Mrs. Keiper.
1965 April 25 Church building is dedicated.  Membership 426.
1968 July 28 School addition is dedicated.
1968 August 25 Rev. Henry Schaefer installed as 2nd pastor of Our Savior.
1968 September 3 Our Savior School opens.  8 in first grade.  17 in Kindergarten.
1968 November 10 First annual Sausage Dinner.
1969 Men's Club organizes.
1969  Ladies Day Circle organizes.
1970 July 12 Donald Weidner installed as first principal/teacher.
1970 September Grades 3 & 4 added.
1971 September Grades 5 & 6 added.
1971 October Parent-Teacher League organizes.
1976 February Women's suffrage come to Our Savior Congregational Assembly.
1976 August 29 Ronald Box installed as principal/teacher.
1976 December Our Savior joins Lutheran High School Association.
1979 January 21 Rev. Denver Schrader installed as 3rd pastor of Our Savior.
1981 February 1 Rev. John Sellmeyer installed as 4th pastor of Our Savior.
1989 April 30 Rev. Robert Kasper installed as 5th pastor of Our Savior.
1989 July 16 Ronald Pawlitz installed as Minister of Parish Education.
1989 September Grades 7 & 8 added.
1993 November 7 Rev. Lawrence Eatherton installed as 6th pastor of Our Savior.
1998 July 12 Groundbreaking for Expanded Facilities.
1999 August 22 Grand Opening Celebration of Expanded Facilities.
2000 June 11 Randall Moeller installed as Minister of Parish Education.
2003 June 15 Manuel Haley installed as Minister of Parish Education.
